Testimonials

I asked Maura to write a press release for a solo exhibition of my sculpture and video works. The deadline was tight—we needed to get something together within 4 days. Maura was responsive and proactive, putting aside time in their schedule to arrange a Facetime studio visit within a couple days of my reaching out. During the Facetime visit, Maura was prepared with productive questions and incisive feedback/interpretations of what they had seen/understood of the work. With an open and non-judgmental communication style, Maura was able to piece together the chaotic information package I emailed them prior to Facetiming, alongside pixelated Facetime images of my studio, to pull together a stunning text that spoke meaningfully to many of the ideas I was trying to work through but had not myself found the words to articulate. Maura was able to intuit and articulate the intentionality and source materials of my work without my spelling it out for them. The revision process with Maura was also smooth and prompt, where I sent back corrections/suggestions on their first draft and they honestly (without any brownnosing) either accepted or rejected my changes while articulating very clearly their reasoning for doing so. I enthusiastically recommend Maura for any art writing opportunities.

I struggled for years to bring the various layers of my practice together in one place. I needed my art to be represented with clarity and professionalism in order to help the right clients find me, but I would get lost in the idea of what I was supposed to say about my work, which felt impossible to explain. Maura landed in my life precisely when I needed to form web content on a higher level. Maura gave me writing tools, strategies and exercises that opened the doors to my own creative process to help me write what I needed for my site. She also stoked a creative fire in me that opened me up to write in other ways. I found working with her to be a complete delight. I started to open and heal, making it possible to share with the public who I am now. I highly recommend Maura’s work if you are working on writing in any form, and also specifically for crafting your web content or artist bio. She’s a great editor, gently encouraging expression of clarity when the writing gets confusing, and cutting the parts that do not serve the higher purpose of your work.

I recently worked with Maura on a grant application. It was an incredible experience. Maura was able to clearly see what I was trying to convey, and help me rewrite it so others would understand. She offered subtle but profound changes while also empowering me to rewrite as well. When it came time to submit my application, I felt confident in what I had written, and I thank Maura for that. Working with her improved my writing, giving me the skills to write this way in the future. Her suggestions are the perfect balance of critical and supportive. She was able to read my proposal from the perspective of those who would be judging my application. Beyond her tremendous editing skills, Maura worked with my tight deadline, which I greatly appreciated. I cannot recommend Maura enough.

I met Maura in 2016 at a residency. Her intensity and focus for her own work was obvious then (it was inspiring), and so years later when I needed assistance with proposals and statements, she was the first person that came to mind. Maura is as professional as they get, and has an ear-to-the-ground understanding of the ins-and-outs of the industry. She understands art-speak, and most importantly, she’s able to draw out of her client what it is they’re really trying to say or do in their work. I was applying for a prestigious residency in Italy when I came to her for guidance. I dropped a heap of wordy ideas into her inbox. Over the course of a few weeks we refined my work. Maura asked the hard questions and essentially led me to see not only what my proposal needed, but also have a deeper understanding of what my own work was about, which is invaluable. Any artist out there reading this knows how difficult it is to find that kind of dedication and attention toward their work from someone who isn’t them. This is a testament not only to Maura’s skill as an editor, but as a listener.
